MAJITEK SEES THE MAGIC IN SUN MICROSYSTEMS

Leading-Edge Technology Company Uses Java™ and Solaris™ 10 to Build Next-Generation Distributed Software Platforms to Manage and Deliver Services to the Network Edge

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, December 6, 2005 – Digital convergence technology specialist Majitek has chosen Sun Microsystems technologies to build its portfolio of telecommunications products. The Majitek software suite enables telecommunications companies, utilities and service providers to connect, manage and deliver a wide variety of services to a range of devices in the field and at home.

Established in 2000, Majitek provides end-to-end solutions for building, integrating and servicing systems from the data centre to the network edge. The company is headquartered in Melbourne     and maintains offices in San Francisco and Singapore.

Majitek is also a Sun partner and a participant in Sun's Ten Moves Ahead partner initiative, which was designed to make it easier for qualified Sun partners to deliver solutions on the Solaris 10 Operating System. The program helps partners by enriching their development lifecycles with new technical, marketing and sales resources.

The Majitek Convergence Suite, was built using Java™ and Jini™ technologies and runs Solaris™ 10, the latest version of Sun's award winning Operating System, as a key deployment environment.

The Majitek Convergence Suite enables network providers to deliver any digital service to any digital device over any digital network. Service providers can now take advantage of the software's distributed computing architecture to grow revenue by introducing new digital services, and at the same time reduce costs by using commodity hardware.

A Partnership Built on Innovation

Majitek has used Sun technology since its foundation. The core development team at the company has worked together for the past 10 years and was responsible for writing the first commercial Java applet sold via the Internet and the first e-commerce engine developed in Java. Rob Cumming, Vice President of Operations for Majitek, was part of this team since its inception and further reinforced the Sun partnership when Majitek was established.

"Sun is a technology leader that advocates open systems and open standards," he said. "We have a strong partnership because we are in the business of developing and selling innovative solutions that enable our customers to have flexibility in the way they grow their businesses.

"We'd like our customers to be using Solaris 10 as it's the most advanced operating system available, so we had to make sure our own platform products were running on it," Cumming added. "The Ten Moves Ahead program gives us unlimited access to the latest Sun hardware and software development tools, so we can develop, implement and test our solutions in an environment that replicates those of our customers."

Sun Provides Flexible, Scalable and Secure Technology Foundation

The three products that make up the Majitek Convergence Suite (Majitek CloudSystem, Majitek EdgeSystem and Majitek GridSystem) can be used together or separately. The suite provides an end-to-end solution to enable service delivery from the data centre to the device at the network edge.

All platforms are Java-based and leverage Jini network technology. Majitek uses a variety of Sun hardware, including Sun Fire™ V20z servers, powered by the AMD Opteron™ x86 dual-core processor and runs Solaris 10 OS in its development and testing environment.

Majitek CloudSystem is a carrier-grade platform that enables management and delivery of multi-format content services to smart devices.

Majitek EdgeSystem is a unique integration platform that enables disparate field devices from multiple vendors to be connected into a single unified environment. It provides a means for service providers to integrate a diverse range of smart devices into their network system.

Majitek GridSystem is the third component of the Majitek Convergence Suite. It allows services to be provisioned to devices over a wide area network, ensuring high scalability, availability and throughput of service transactions.

Majitek is currently undertaking quality assurance testing for its product suite. The company expects to deploy the software platforms into customer sites within the next six months.

"We are co-selling the convergence products with Sun to a number of large telecommunications companies. We expect to see some sites going live by the end of the year or early in 2006," said Cumming.

The company sees Australia as the testing ground for its products and intends to expand into Asia and broader global markets in the next couple of years.

"Our partners are using Sun's broad technology portfolio to develop the next wave of powerful services to be delivered via the network," said James Eagleton, Solaris product manager for Sun Microsystems Australia and New Zealand.

"Majitek's innovative work and forward-thinking approach complements our business philosophy. We look forward to working with them on other technology and marketing projects," said Eagleton.

"We have always had a good working relationship with Sun and advocate their products unequivocally," said Cumming. "It's a win-win partnership."
